Locally born, raised and educated, Rob Garratt has been involved in the motor trade since leaving Feilding Agricultural High School at the end of 1979.
As a 16 year old he became an apprentice mechanic at the local Farmers Co-Operative Distributor Company that held the Peugeot and Renault franchises, and later joined the partnership that brought out the FCDC workshop operation that became HGS Motors, the surname initials of the three shareholders.
In 1992 Rob established Rob Garratt Auto Services and built up the Warwick Street business to the point that five full-time staff were employed and the need came for the large Manchester Street premises where the Garratt Motor Group is now based.
His successful business philosophy is very customer focussed, and is clearly reflected in the Group mission statement - OUR BUSINESS IS EARNING YOUR TRUST.
This important focus is the result of participating in specialist management courses run by the Retailers Association of New Zealand and contracting Wellington-based Working Success Limited to initiate better practices, business coaching and staff relationships, factors that have led to the Group's success in the automotive field.
Sport has also played a big part in Rob's life - a Manawatu rugby representative, New Zealand Off-Road Racing champion, national and international jetsprint driver and now speedway Sprintcar racer
His other interests are diverse, when not at the family life-style block aviation figures strongly .
